Internet Explorer Vs Firefox User Survey

Posted by recycle on Thursday, August 9th, 2007

In a recent survey done by myself, it turns out that Internet Explorer 6 is still top dog in the browsers wars.

I did my survey on a website that markets its products to the “older” generation, so the results didn’t surprise me as they don’t really upgrade or try new software.

  • 88% used Internet Explorer
  • 10% used Firefox
  • 2% used Safari

Digging deeper into the survey, IE6 had 52% and IE7 with 47%, there were even some people using 5.5 and lower, oh dear!

The good news was that over 50% of the users were using a DSL line and only 5% using Dial Up.

What happens when you target different markets?

However, this slightly changes when you target your audience to business people. Firefox and Safari both increase but IE6 still holds its position.

So with this in mind, you have to be aware when creating your html and css pages so IE6, IE7 and Firefox browsers all render your markup the same.
