Choosing a good password

Posted by recycle on Thursday, May 4th, 2006

How many times do we have to think of a password to gain access to our data? Emails, webpage sign-ins, internet connections… they all need passwords, yet people just don’t understand how important passwords are !!!

Passwords stop people accessing your private data - THEY STOP THIEVES.

What NOT to use for passwords

  • first name
  • surname
  • date of birth
  • pets name
  • childrens name
  • childrens date of birth
  • football team
  • film
  • anything that is your favourite “chocolate”
  • nicknames
  • basically, anything that people would guess

Why can’t I use them ?

It’s not rocket science.. If someone else knows your password, then they can access your data. No excuses, not even “well, they would not do that, they are my friends”.

KEEP YOUR PASSWORD A SECRET

What password should I use ?

Most passwords look like this “x4rd56tg”, but you are not going to remember that! About 98% of passwords never need remembering.

When choosing a password make something up, take a word, stick some numbers and letters in it and smile.
